Old West Gun Works - Wire Rope and Sling Manufacturer
A former 1800’s gun factory, The Old West Gun Works is our Sheffield head office as well as a manufacturing site responsible for wire rope and sling manufacture. The Old West Gun Works heritage site is home to our central head office team’s including Finance, Marketing, Product Management, Supply Chain and IT. Gripple we moved into the building following an extensive refurbishment in September 1994. The site was opened by HRH the Prince of Wales, who described it as “one of the finest refurbishments of a listed building that I have ever seen”, the Gun Works also features our unique spider sculpture on the side of the wall, which is now a well-known landmark in the Sheffield region.

At Gripple we are constantly striving for efficiencies and working to improve and automate production processes. To produce our GPAK bracing kits and Wire Rope Slings our Old West Gun Works site features the below advanced production equipment:
- Fully automatic sling machines
- Robotic pick and place units
- Vision systems enabling multiple end fixings to be run on the same machine
Products Produced On Site:
- GPAK – Ready to install wire rope fence bracing kits. (Production Capacity: 500,000 per week)
- Industrial Slings – Pre cut wire lengths utilised in various Gripple kits. (Production Capacity: 230,000 per week)

I joined the Gripple graduate scheme in 2012 and have progressed throughout the group, working for both Gripple and Loadhog, developing and introducing products which contribute millions of pounds to our 25% new product target.
