Gripple gets active around the world in support of chosen charities

Staff at global wire joining and tensioning systems manufacturer, Gripple, have pledged to run, cycle, swim or hike a virtual lap of the company offices in support of charities across the world.

Dubbed ‘Grippathlon’, the company’s regional sites will go ‘head-to-head’ in a race to be the first site to reach the cumulative 15,000 miles target – the distance between Gripple’s four sites around the world.

Employing close to 500 people across sites in Sheffield, Obernai, Chicago and New Delhi, the company hopes to encourage its people to actively participate, promoting mental and physical wellbeing, while supporting a host of deserving charities.

Charlotte Hill, organiser of the event, said: “we have a lot of keen sports men and women across the company, as well as some friendly regional rivalry so we thought it would be really fun to promote some healthy competition away from the day to day operations of the business.”

Gripple donates 1% of budgeted profits to charitable organisations each year, with each region having it’s own charities team organising donations to deserving causes and encouraging internal participation in charity events throughout the year. Alongside this work, the company organises ‘people power’ projects, where members of staff support local causes by donating their time, effort and expertise to renovation work.

Funds raised by the challenge will supporting initiatives such as Hesed House, a shelter for homeless people in Illinois, USA; SOS Children’s villages of India, and a sensory garden project being undertaken by Gripple’s UK workforce at Wooley Wood School in Sheffield, for children with severe and complex learning difficulties and disabilities.
