Health, Safety and Environmental Manager

We are now looking for a health, safety and environmental manager to join the Gripple operations team. Reporting to the UK operations director, the chosen candidate will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and maintaining effective health and safety procedures that align with our employee ownership values. This position requires a passionate leader who can nurture engagement in a safety-first culture throughout the organisation whilst managing a team of HSE co-ordinators and departmental champions.

Established in 1989, we are the original innovators and manufacturers of wire joining and tensioning devices, as well as anchoring, bracing, and suspension systems that have changed the game for many industries.

The role

Key responsibilities for the position will include:

  • developing and implementing a HSE strategy to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable working environment, minimising risks and promoting a culture of health, safety, and environmental excellence across all operations
  • conducting regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and work collaboratively with shareholders to implement corrective measures
  • providing engaging training and support to all employees on HSE practices, fostering an environment where everyone feels responsible for safety
  • developing and implementing HSE policies and procedures that reflect our commitment to employee ownership and regulatory compliance
  • managing budgets and overheads to ensure efficient resource allocation, cost control, and alignment with organisational financial objectives
  • collaborating with management and employee-owners to ensure a proactive approach to HSE across all levels of the organisation
  • monitoring and reporting on HSE performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement in a transparent manner
  • leading incident investigations and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement and promote a culture of learning
  • staying informed on HSE regulations, industry best practices, and emerging trends to keep our practices current
  • liaising with global colleagues to ensure the HSE culture is sustained and adapted throughout the business, sharing best practices and aligning strategies across regions

Working hours 

Mon - Fri 8.30am - 5.00pm (with flexibility within office hours of 7.00am-7.00pm Monday-Friday).

Who you are?

To be considered for the role, you must:

  • possess strong leadership skills and be an exemplar of the 5E leadership behaviours (Energy, Energise, Edge, Engage, Execute)
  • have proven decision-making and problem-solving skills and an ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • have previous experience and knowledge of ISO certification (in particular ISO 45001 and ISO 15001)
  • have a proven record for influencing others and driving a culture of HSE
