Product Sourcing Specialist

What is the role

Working within the wider supply chain team, you will be based specifically within the purchasing team responsible for supplying goods into our UK-based manufacturing plants.

You will work with multiple departments across the business to manage the end-to-end procurement process, from design through to tooling and sampling and will include:

  • conducting research for new products, new components and new materials, and sourcing to specifications and bespoke engineering drawings
  • proposing modes of manufacture to deliver fit-for-purpose components and liaising between suppliers and design teams on Design for Manufacturing
  • onboarding new suppliers to align with the business values and needs, and futureproofing in line with diversification and sustainability strategies
  • an understanding of vertical integration, viability and risk assessment
  • managing Proof of Principle phase through to production ready OTIF
  • providing cost and value analysis, incorporating all ancillary costs and decision making
  • producing and presenting reports/information sets for internal key business decisions and external consumption
  • ·negotiation and procurement using best practice tools and methods
  • time planning and management relevant to NPD process and realisation
  • following all necessary governance/ approvals related to global procurement 

Working hours 

Mon - Fri 8.30am - 5.00pm (core office hours of 7.00am-7.00pm Monday-Friday).

Who you are

You will need to have experience of working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a purchasing team, with familiarity with technical specifications, engineering drawings and scopes of work an essential requirement of the role. You should have keen attention to detail, with strong analytical, numerical and IT skills.

You should also be able to offer the following:

  • A keen interest in investigating new processes and materials, with the capability to relate these to the commercial context
  • An ability to empathise across departments and make clear holistic business decisions
  • A strong ability to problem-solve and versatility to react
  • Experience in procurement projects in industries such as construction, rail, etc.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to identify and mitigate where appropriate key supply chain risks prior to placing purchase orders
  • Experience in purchasing, price negotiation and contract implementation
  • Ability to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and suppliers on a global setting
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritise tasks to given deadlines
  • Ability to work as art of the team and independently where required

A Charted Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Diploma level 4 or similar qualification is also desirable.
