Discover our headquarters & wire rope sling manufacturing site

A former 1800’s gun factory, Old West Gun Works is our Sheffield headquarters as well as a manufacturing site responsible for wire rope and sling manufacture. Old West Gun Works heritage site is home to our central headquarter team’s including Finance, Marketing, Product Management, Supply Chain and IT.

We moved into the building following an extensive refurbishment in September 1994. The site was opened by HRH the Prince of Wales, who described it as “one of the finest refurbishments of a listed building that I have ever seen”, the Gun Works also features our unique spider sculpture on the side of the wall, which is now a well-known landmark in the Sheffield region.

Production & Technology on Site:

At Gripple we are constantly striving for efficiencies and working to improve and automate production processes. To produce our GPAK bracing kits and Wire Rope Slings our Old West Gun Works site features the below advanced production equipment:

• Fully automatic sling machines
• Robotic pick and place units
• Vision systems enabling multiple end fixings to be run on the same machine

Environmental Measures In Place:

At Gripple we take minimising our environmental impact seriously. We continuously look to bring sustainability into our products, buildings and business practices. This is why we invested in the below environmental measures at our Old West Gun Works site:  

• A fully refurbished, grade 2 listed building given new lease of life
• Evaporative cooling system
• 85% LED lighting
• Machine energy saving initiatives
• 4 electric vehicle chargers installed
• Energy efficient compressors

Quality Measures In Place:

Product quality is vital to our customers when installing on site. At Gripple we take this seriously and have implemented the below quality measures at our Old West Gun Works site:

• Camera driven component selection
• Full safety factor destruction tests for each batch
• Weight check for each bagged product
• Weight check for finished box of product
