Gripple Connect: Stories of Success, featuring Southland Industries

Southland is a nationwide contractor, in business for 75 years. They specialize in commercial construction, data centers, healthcare, government projects, sports & entertainment facilities, and more.

Gripple recently visited Southland at the Albina Library project in Portland, Oregon. The library is a beautiful all-wood structure building, due to open in May 2025. During our visit, we spoke with Wade O’Brien, General Foreman, and Kasey Finegan, Apprentice.

What Makes Southland Successful?

At Southland, “We’re definitely one family,” said Wade.  “We work as a team on all projects, and if one person needs something, there’s always a resource available or somebody to help.” In addition, recruiting and supporting women in the trades is very important to Southland, providing women a lot of opportunity, treating them equally, and training them thoroughly.

According to Wade, the reason Southland has been so successful is the people. Between working with partners like Gripple, and Southland itself being a creative company by trying new things and thinking outside the box, it’s his opinion that the people are what’s made them a very successful business.

The Gripple Effect
